OUR SERVICES
Food security is a critical global issue, particularly in regions experiencing conflict, climate change, and economic instability. These factors severely impact the ability of communities to access sufficient, nutritious food, exacerbating poverty and vulnerability. DIVERGENT’s agriculture and food security programs are dedicated to addressing these underlying causes of food insecurity while promoting sustainable livelihoods for affected populations. We collaborate with governments, local communities, and development partners to strengthen agricultural systems, enhance resource accessibility, and improve food production in a manner that is resilient, equitable, and sustainable through our research expertise. Our approach is tailored to the specific needs of each community, ensuring that interventions are contextually appropriate and designed for long-term success.
Central to our agriculture and food security initiatives is the focus on increasing productivity and sustainability in agricultural practices. This includes promoting the adoption of climate-resilient crops that can withstand extreme weather conditions, thereby reducing the vulnerability of farming communities to climate-related shocks. We also emphasize the importance of reducing post-harvest losses through improved storage techniques and value chain development, ensuring that food produced reaches markets and consumers efficiently. Another key component of our work is fostering intercommunal resource-sharing arrangements, such as joint water and land management practices, which not only improve resource utilization but also promote peaceful coexistence between communities that might otherwise compete for scarce resources. These initiatives help reduce conflict and strengthen social cohesion while simultaneously improving food security.
Beyond enhancing agricultural productivity, DIVERGENT places a strong emphasis on strengthening agricultural value chains and improving market access for farmers and producers. We work to ensure that agricultural, livestock, and fisheries products can reach wider markets, including export markets, which in turn creates new economic opportunities and boosts incomes for rural households. By improving the connectivity between producers and consumers, we help rural economies become more robust and resilient. This also includes facilitating market-driven solutions that encourage the development of sustainable, locally-driven food systems capable of supporting long-term food security. Our ultimate goal is to create self-sustaining agricultural systems that not only feed communities but also drive economic growth, build resilience against future shocks, and reduce reliance on external food aid or emergency assistance.
